Die Buchensteinwand gilt als der Aussichtsberg des Pillerseetals.
Der 1462m hohe Berg ist von St. Jakob im Haus bequem mit der Bergbahn Pillersee erreichbar. Man kann ihn aber auch erwandern.
Zu Fuße des Berges finden sich neben St. Jakob im Haus auch Fieberbrunn und der bekannte Wintersportort Hochfilzen.
